“Avengers: Endgame” Continues To Gain At The Box Office

Despite being released on home video and being out of cinemas domestically for a couple of months, AVENGERS: ENDGAME continues to gain at the foreign box office. Forbes reported the film continues to gain on James Cameron’s Avatar.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ Has Been Quietly Extending Its Box Office Record For Weeks

There’s beauty to be found in every movie.

FORBES – It’s been more than a month since Avengers: Endgame accomplished the seemingly impossible by overcoming Avatar’s worldwide box office record. At the time, Endgame’s domestic theater count had dropped below 1,000, The Lion King was hitting theaters and another Marvel film had been occupying the film for weeks. By all accounts, the Endgame run was considered near its end.

But it wasn’t—and it still isn’t.

It’s not much, but Endgame added another $50,268 to its domestic total this past weekend $68,313 to its foreign earnings. Last week the film accrued an additional $500,000 or so, and the week before close to another $1 million. While that’s chump change compared to the film’s $2.796 billion lifetime earnings, it has allowed the current reigning champ to further its lead over Avatar—which will be key, as Avatar will likely hit theaters again ahead of the sequel’s release.

Currently, Avatar’s lifetime gross stands at $2.789 billion. That means that Avengers: Endgame has added on another $7 million to its total since breaking the record. Again, while that might not seem like much, any sort of padding is good for the latest Avengers film as its worldwide presence diminishes.

And Endgame’s run still isn’t over. Avengers: Infinity War remained in U.S. theaters for 20 weeks, and Endgame is still in its 18th week. Infinity War continued to pull in over nearly $100,000 weekly near the end of its run, similar to Endgame.

The real money will come internationally, however. While Infinity War’s domestic run ended on Sept. 13, 2018, its showing in foreign markets continued into 2019. While earnings were minimal, we can expect a similar trajectory from Endgame, which will likely continue to earn money through January or February.

By then? Who knows how far Endgame will have pulled ahead of Avatar. It may not be a huge lead, but Endgame is hoping it’ll be enough to hold off an Avatar re-release.
